How I Saved 40 Tonnes of CO₂ —
And How You Can Too 🌍

In today’s world, where climate change and environmental issues dominate the headlines, it can feel overwhelming to know where to start. But here’s the truth: small, consistent choices add up to something powerful.

I know this from experience. Over the past 20 years, through my eco-conscious lifestyle, I’ve saved over 40 tonnes of CO₂ — the equivalent of:

  • 🚗 Driving 200,000 fewer miles

  • 🌳 Planting 2,000 trees

  • 💧 Saving millions of litres of water

And here’s the exciting part: you can do it too.

My Eco Journey 🌱

My story began after a life-changing accident that left me having to learn to walk and live again. During recovery, I developed a deep empathy for others — humans, animals, and the planet we share. I realised that every day was a chance to make kinder choices and live with purpose.

That experience shaped my path into sustainable living. Over time, the small steps I took built into something extraordinary: saving 40 tonnes of CO₂ while living a life that feels healthier, lighter, and more connected to nature.

Everyday Actions That Add Up

Here are some of the lifestyle choices that helped me get there:

🌿 Plant-Based Living

I’ve been eating plant-based for nearly 20 years. This saves 1.5 tonnes of CO₂ per year, plus 1 million litres of water — and 3,000 lives.

🚗 Driving Electric & Active Travel

Almost six years ago, I switched to an electric car. Combined with cycling and walking, this avoids hundreds of kilograms of CO₂ emissions every year.

♻️ Recycling & Composting

For over a decade, I’ve recycled and composted at home — cutting down on landfill waste and methane, one of the most harmful greenhouse gases.

👗 Second-Hand Shopping

Fast fashion is one of the planet’s biggest polluters. By shopping second-hand, donating clothes, and reusing what I have, I avoid unnecessary production and waste.

🚫 Plastic-Free Swaps

From refillable water bottles to bamboo toilet paper, soap bars, and reusable makeup pads, I’ve swapped thousands of single-use plastics for eco-friendly alternatives.
